About

The Los Angeles Food Policy Council works to ensure food is healthy, affordable, fair and sustainable for all. They believe Good Food for All is possible and that all communities deserve access to good food, grown in a way that respects people and the planet. They work to create a local food system free from hunger, rooted in equity and access, supportive of farmers and food workers, and guided by principles of environmental stewardship and regeneration. To accomplish their vision of Good Food for All, they catalyze, coordinate and connect people across the LA region, including government, business and community groups working on food.

The The Los Angeles Food Policy Council serves as backbone organization for a network of over 400 organizations and agencies working for healthy, sustainable and fair food.

The Request

When we met the folks at Los Angeles Food Policy Council they had long since been developing their presence on social media and had a refined sense of who they were but hadn’t developed a real look they were happy with in terms of branding & design. Their website and logo were very old and a definite pain point despite the amazing work they obviously do. They felt they were entering a new era of growth and expansion for the org after years of foundation building and wanted to partner with someone to help take their branding to the next level, to give a boost to their organization, and to match the growth of their budding movement.

What We Did

We took a holistic approach to assessing, strategizing and developing a cohesive brand design that would both give clarity and transparency around our process and help them participate as much as possible in getting to a place they loved- our overall aim being to create a logo & identity that better reflects the LA Food Policy Council’s mission, vision and vibe and would lay a modern marketing foundation for their work over the next 5 years.

We started out with questionnaires and stakeholder interviews for both staff and board members and presented a recap and assessment of what was their existing brand identity. We held discussions to determine their needs, desires, and vision for moving forward and used brand boards and style mockups along side iconography and font design drafting to develop a logo & overall brand identity they loved.

Once all the pieces were in place (logo + variations, font set, color palette, stock/core photos, etc.), we put together a Brand & Language Guide document for them outlining both visual and written standards for the brand that their team (and contractors) could easily reference and follow down the line.

We finished in time for their annual Good Food Gala and fundraiser where they announced and showcased the new logo and brand.

Testimonial

“Our team thoroughly enjoyed working with David in our rebrand and logo redesign. From the initial brand exploration conversations to design review and finalization, he was communicative, receptive, thoughtful and professional while providing guidance and tools to facilitate the process all along the way. He was attentive to our needs, working with our timeline and schedule to meet our ambitious goals while also helping to anchor and monitor the process. His intuitive and values driven approach to the process of working together resulted in a truly trusting and productive working relationship. The process itself helped us clarify our story, our vision and the image we seek to reflect in the world… and the cherry on top was a beautiful new logo!”
